Based in Orange County, CA

Hello there! My name is Nina and I am a certified birth doula through DONA International, mother of two fun and energetic children, and former nonprofit professional. I was born and raised in Sweden, but my life journey has taken me all over the world, and I have lived outside of Sweden for over a decade in the U.S., U.K., and Costa Rica, among other places. I thrive in diverse environments and when I have the opportunity to work with and learn from people from different cultures and backgrounds. I have always been passionate about supporting other people, which influenced both my career and academic interests. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and my Master’s degree from Tufts University, where I studied International Development.

My happy place is wherever I am with my husband and children, and spending quality time with friends and family. I enjoy traveling, cooking/baking, hiking, playing tennis, reading, and a relaxing evening of Netflix. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and British classics! I also have a soft spot in my heart for thrill rides and amusement parks.

I have found a true calling in my role as a doula because it enables me to combine my passion for health and education, support women and families to improve their health and wellbeing, and help women advocate for their needs. I have no preconceived notions of what birth looks like, and I want to support you in developing your birth vision and preferences. Every journey to birth and parenthood is unique, and that is the beauty of it!

I am also experienced with midwifery care and out-of-hospital births, having completed a four-month program with South Coast Midwifery. I have worked with parents who have used various childbirth education courses such as the Bradley Method, Hypnobirthing, Lamaze, and Mama Natural.

Feel free to reach out to me for a complimentary consultation. I also offer sliding scale fees and payment plans depending on your situation and financial circumstances, as I aim to make my doula services as accessible as possible.

I look forward to getting to know you and your story, and would be honored and excited to support your journey to parenthood!

Birth Philosophy

No two journeys through pregnancy and birth look the same, but everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, respected, and empowered to make decisions for themselves before, during, and after birth. No matter the circumstances, every woman and family should be able to acquire the tools and information they need to be prepared for and resilient during birth. I want women and families to be active decision-makers in their birth journey. I believe in each woman’s instinct to do what is right for her, and I want to help women listen to, follow and advocate for that powerful part of themselves.

I welcome all birth settings, whether you are interested in an unmedicated birth or plan on using medical pain management. I support you and your family by connecting you to evidence-based information, exploring your birth preferences and options, and providing practical advice and tools throughout the process. I listen to your needs, meet you where you are at, and help explore your strengths as well as fears. I will be there if labor and birth deviates from your desired plan and you have to adapt from your birth preferences. I will support and nurture you as you make new decisions for yourself and your baby. I will not make decisions for you and I will not advocate for a specific course of action. Those are your choices to make, but I will be there to help bridge any communication gaps with care providers and help raise your voice.

My goal is for you to have a positive birth experience, to be an active decision-maker, and to have the healthiest birth possible. To the greatest extent possible, I want to help you avoid any unnecessary medical interventions that may prolong your recovery and ability to transition smoothly to parenthood. I want you to feel in charge, in tune with your instincts, and supported throughout your pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediate postpartum period.
